Kathmandu, November 25
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Friday that the Constitution will not be amended to make naturalised citizens eligible for major constitutional positions.
He said this while talking to a delegation of his party, the CPN-Maoist Centre, that met him to draw attention towards the development of Kaski district.
Prachanda said: Several rumours about Constitution amendment are making rounds. They are not true.
He added that his government is preparing a Constitution amendment proposal. But the Constitution will have provisions that will make only citizens by descent eligible for positions ranging from Chief Ministers to President, PM said, adding: Naturalised citizens will not be eligible for such posts.
Discussions are currently underway on granting naturalised Nepali citizenship to foreign women once they relinquish foreign citizenship after their marriage with Nepali nationals.

On the issue of delineation of provinces, Prachanda said they will strive for an understanding on the creation of seven provinces.
At the same time, PM Prachanda said the government is preparing to bring a supplementary budget. This budget will comprise programmes, including government for the poor, people pension programme and provisions on providing jobs to unemployed youths, PM’s Private Secretariat informed.
During the meeting, Centre leaders asked PM to prioritise development of a Ring Road in Pokhara, development of an international zoo and construction of a province-level bus park as well as an international cricket stadium.
