Kathmandu, December 13

Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya has once again expressed dissatisfaction over the ongoing Occupy Tundikhel campaign that demands the city government to evacuate Tundikhel, the open ground in central Kathmandu.

Mayor Shakya protested the citizen-level campaign during a press meet he hosted on Friday. “Some people have a habit of posting their pictures on social media regularly; some others want them in the news,” he commented, “Many people have been running various campaigns to become characters of news stories. We cannot say that Occupy Tundikhel is not like that.”

Shakya claimed that Khulamanch, a part of Tundikhel, would be evacuated soon, irrespective of the campaign’s demand. Suspecting that the campaign was initiated with prejudice, the mayor further accused the activists of ignoring the encroachment of land around Basantapur.

The leader was of the view that Nepali Congress leader Bhimsen Das Pradhan, who has been publicly supporting the campaign, had a role in Tundikhel’s encroachment as he allowed Nepal Army to construct a building there when he was the defence minister.
