Kathmandu, July 28
Two chairmen of the ruling Nepal Communist Party–KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal–have postponed the party’s secretariat meeting called for 3 pm on Sunday.
A few hours before the scheduled meeting, the two chairmen met and decided to put the meeting on hold till Monday afternoon, according to the party’s spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
Of late, the party has been unable to hold its secretariat meeting, which is expected to pick leaders to chair its internal departments. In particular, two influential leaders–Shrestha and Ishwar Pokharel–have staked their claim to the leadership of powerful school department, leaving the top leaders indecisive.
Oli is in favour of Pokharel but Dahal backs Shrestha. On the other hand, some other leaders have also expressed interest to lead the department.
The meeting, postponed repeatedly since last week, was called for Sunday afternoon after a meeting of the two chairs on Saturday.
