Kathmandu, May 23
Opposition parties have decided to file lawsuits at the Supreme Court against the government’s dissolution of the House of Representatives on Monday.
Leaders say as many as 149 lawmakers who had submitted an application to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday demanding the Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba be appointed the prime minister will file lawsuits individually, according to the leaders. They represent the Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of the CPN-UML, Upendra Yadav-led faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, and Rastriya Janamorcha.
The lawmakers will demand that the Supreme Court issue a certiorari to appoint Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba the prime minister and reinstate the dissolved house.
Although they had prepared to file the lawsuits today itself, collecting the lawmakers’ signatures took time, the leaders say.
Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, Maoist Centre leader Dev Gurung, and advocates Satish Krishna Kharel, Yogendra Karki, Govinda Bandi, and Mukti Pradhan had drafted the lawsuits.
