Biratnagar, February 27
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa has said he is ready to handover the leadership of a recently-formed political mechanism to review provincial boundaries.
The government announced the formation of the mechanism just a few hours before Prime Minister KP Oli’s visit to India. Madheshi Morcha, whose demands the mechanism was formed to address, has criticised the government for forming the mechanism unilaterally to please the Indian government.
Talking to mediapersons in Biratnagar ,”I accepted the post of coordinator on the Prime Minister’s request. If the Morcha does not want me to lead the mechanism, then I am ready to resign,” said minister Thapa.
Thapa, who accompanied PM Oli to India, said the issue of ‘Hindu rastra’ was not raised by the Indian government during the Prime Minister’s visit.
