Kathmandu, December 25
Nine opposition parties, including the main opposition CPN-UML, have accused the Prachanda-led government of becoming unruly and issuing threats against them.
The nine parties said at a joint press conference on Sunday that the government itself is fomenting violence. They warned that they will not stay quiet from now on.
UML Chair KP Sharma Oli alleged that the ruling alliance was threatening and challenging the opposition. He vented ire at the government. He claimed that the government had initiated efforts to prevent the opposition parties from going to the people and putting forth their views.
He pointed: Right after the government criticised the movement against Constitution amendment, Youth Association (Rupandehi) chief Durga Tiwari was murdered (in Khairahani Bazaar) and FNCCI (Rupandehi) chief was shot at.
Oli said: It appears that the government seems bent on fomenting violence.
The UML chief said the government-sponsored Constitution Amendment Bill is not worthy of discussions in the Parliament.
He reiterated they will help the government conduct elections if the government announces a poll plan.
In a nine-point appeal, the nine opposition parties have urged the government to come up with an action plan for conducting three-tier elections and announce the dates for the elections.
The Bill is aimed at blocking elections, the parties said, adding: The Constitution Amendment Bill is not in the interest of the country and the people. So, it is unacceptable.
By presenting itself as an oppressive and unbridled force, the government is pushing the country towards anarchy, the parties said and condemned the government.
