Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav says recent floods and inundations in various districts of Province 2 will not affect local level elections scheduled for September 18.

Speaking with journalists in Rajbiraj of Saptari district on Monday, Yadav said preparations for the polls would go smooth as much as possible though the floods damaged various infrastructures including voting centres and offices of election officials.

“I have told the government to renovate and upgrade damaged various paths and offices. Let’s see how much we can do before the elections,” he said, “Otherwise, we will conduct voting under tents.”

He said the Commission was doing everything necessary for the polls on its part including voter education programmes and human resource management.

Meanwhile, he reiterated that the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal could not be given the new election symbol of umbrella for the polls.
