RPP to form volunteers’ organisation in BJP’s RSS model

Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa speaks at a press meet in Kathmandu, on Friday, July 21, 2017.

Kathmandu, July 21

Nepal’s pro-Hindu Rastriya Prajatantra Party has decided to form a volunteers’ organisation using the model of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a parent organisation of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

A recent meeting of the party’s Central Committee decided to form and operate the Nepal Dhrma tatha Sanskriti Parishad (Nepal Religion and Culture Council) in the model that the RSS has been operating, a Central Committee member tells Onlinekhabar.

Party Chairman and former Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa, however, did not mention the RSS at a press meet organised to make the meeting decisions public today.

“The decision has been made to form the Council to work for Hinduism, Buddhism and Kirant religion,” he said.

The member says the Council would expand its organisation to all 744 local units. Its exact organisational structure is yet to be finalised.

Meanwhile, the meeting demanded that the government print the image of King Prithvi Narayan Shah in Nepali banknotes.

The meeting, however, failed to make any concrete decision on crucial political issues.
