Pokhara, February 28
Deputy Prime Minister Bhim Bahadur Rawal has described rumours about another blockade as baseless.
Rawal was speaking at a press meet that Press Chautari Nepal’s Kaski chapter had organised on Sunday.
He said there will be certain inconveniences for some time as the government has to import huge quantities of petroleum products to address the shortage persisting for five months.
The Indian Oil Corporation and high officials of the Indian government have pledged to supply petroleum products to Nepal as per the need, he said, adding that his government is making efforts to ease the supply situation.
All parties should move ahead together to deal with challenges that will crop up while implementing the newly-prommulgated constitution, he said. Rawal expressed confidence that Nepali people will not readily provide suppot to forces that want to launch movements every now and then.
Rawal noted that inability to hold civic elections for long has affected budget utilisation. He said the government is making preparations to announce the dates for local polls by holding discussions with all political parties.
He said: Nepal is trying to secure its transit rights by maintaining cordial relations with India and China.
We will end the prevailing energy crisis by constructing reservoir-based hydropower projects, he said.
