Design and display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 has the same design as last year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 with a new and improved hinge. The new hinge has helped the foldable fold completely flat instead of leaving a gap in the Z Fold4. Due to this reason the thickness when folding has decreased by almost 2mm and the weight has been reduced by 109 grams.
As for the build, it uses the same armour aluminium frame as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 which is durable and also lightweight. It uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the main and the cover screen proving extra durability. It also gets IPX8 water resistance to protect it from water.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 as a foldable smartphone features a main screen and a cover screen. The main screen is a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, with a size of 7.6 inches. It has a resolution of 1812 x 2176 pixels and a pixel density of around 373 ppi.
The 120Hz refresh rate enhances the overall fluidity and responsiveness of the display, making interactions and scrolling smooth along with the support for HDR10+ which enhances the viewing experience.
On the other hand, the cover screen features a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a size of 6.2 inches. The cover screen has a resolution of 904 x 2316 pixels and a 23.1:9 aspect ratio.
Performance and storage
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, built on a 4nm process. The Octa-core CPU configuration includes a high-performance Cortex-X3 core running at 3.36 GHz, two Cortex-A715 cores and two Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz, and three energy-efficient Cortex-A510 cores operating at 2.0 GHz. The graphics processing is handled by the Adreno 740 GPU. It runs on the latest Andriod 13 with Samsung’s One UI 5.1.1 operating system.
It has one RAM option of 12GB which is paired with three storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 comes equipped with a triple main camera setup. This includes a 50 MP wide lens with f/1.8 aperture, a 10 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 12 MP ultrawide lens with a 123˚ field of view.
The main camera offers features like Dual Pixel PDAF and OIS for fast and steady focusing. It also supports HDR and LED flash to click photos in challenging lighting conditions. For video recording, the main camera can shoot 8K at 24fps, 4K at 60fps, and 1080p at 60/240fps with gyro-EIS for smooth footage.
The main screen includes a is a 4 MP under-display lens with f/1.8 aperture. The camera is not that good and can be used for video calling and normal uses. Rather you can use the cover camera with a 10 MP wide lens. It has f/2.2 aperture and HDR support, making it suitable for selfie shots and video recording at 4K and 1080p with gyro-EIS.
Using the hinge, you can use the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 upper half as a tripod. Also using the rear camera and the cover screen you can click high-resolution selfies and videos.
Battery and others
The Galaxy Z Fold5 has a Li-Po 4400 mAh battery, which is non-removable, and provides reliable power to keep the device running throughout the day. Charging options include 25W wired charging for quick power-ups, 15W wireless charging for cable-free convenience, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging to charge other devices.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 offers a wide range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e/7 and Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring seamless and fast data transfer and internet access. The phone is equipped with various sensors, including a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, gyro, proximity sensor, compass, and barometer.
It also supports Samsung DeX for a desktop-like experience, Samsung Pay with Visa and MasterCard certification for contactless payments, and Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology for enhanced device connectivity.
It also supports the S Pen but there is no place to put the S Pen within the phone. However, the new S pen is now 41 per cent thinner. Samsung has introduced new slim cases where you can put the S Pen without any hassle like the Z Fold4 cases.
