In Nepal, Samsung has launched its popular A series smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G. The A16 5G is the successor to the Galaxy A15 5G, which, alongside its 4G counterpart A15 4G, was the most sold smartphone in Quarter 3 of 2024. The Galaxy A16 also has the LTE and 5G versions. The A16 LTE and A16 5G versions have a few differences, such as different chipsets, camera specs, Network and colour options. The differences between the A16 5G and its predecessor the A15 5G include larger display size, chipset and camera specs.
The A16 5G will compete against other smartphones in the same price range such as OnePlus Nord CE 3, Redmi Note 13 Pro, Realme Narzo 70 Pro, OPPO A60 Pro and Nothing CMF Phone 1. Let us see what the smartphone delivers in terms of specifications.

Design and Display
The design of the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is the same as the Galaxy A15 5G. The major difference that can be seen between the two is the larger display size on the A16. The back of the A16 5G is made up of plastic and has crisscrossed lines with gradients of the respective colour. The triple rear camera setup is the same as other Samsung smartphones in recent times. As for the frame, it is also made up of plastic and has a matte brushed finish to it.
Coming to the display, the Galaxy A16 5G still carries the Water-drop notch for the selfie camera. Other major smartphone brands have opted for a hole-punch cutout in the same price range which gives a premium look and feel. The display features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 for sharp details. The display has a smooth 90 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 800 nits. The display also supports 16 million colours for a rich and smooth display experience.
Performance and Storage
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, built on a 6nm process. There is another chipset, the Exynos 1330 built on a 5nm process which is available in Europe. The MediaTek Dimensity chipset has an octa-core CPU, with two high-speed Cortex-A76 cores at 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz for balanced power and efficiency. As for graphics, the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU handles graphics performance.
As for software, the Galaxy A16, the smartphone is running on OneUI 6.1, based on Android 14. Samsung is set to provide six years of operating system updates and six years of security updates. For memory options; the A16 5G is available in 6GB RAM paired with 128GB and 8GB RAM paired with 128GB and 256GB storage. The SIM slot has a hybrid SIM Slot which can hold up to 1.5TB of external storage.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G has a triple rear camera system, featuring a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture for detailed photos, a 5 MP ultrawide lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a 2 MP macro lens with an f/2.4 aperture for close-ups. The camera supports autofocus though it lacks optical image stabilization (OIS). Users can zoom up to 10x digitally for more distant subjects, although the quality might be lower at maximum zoom levels with heavy distortions. For videos, the rear camera records in 1920 x 1080 at 30 fps and slow-motion is available at 120 fps in HD.
On the front, the Galaxy A16 5G has a 13 MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture for quality selfies and video calls. It also supports 1080p video recording at 30fps.
Battery and Others
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is equipped with a large 5000 mAh battery which delivers ample power for daily use. As for charging, the Galaxy A16 5G has 25W wired charging support. For connectivity, the smartphone supports dual-band Wi-Fi for fast and reliable internet access and includes Bluetooth 5.3 for stable connections with other devices. It supports LTE and 5G networks, allowing for fast mobile data speeds.
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G supports dual SIM cards, with one slot doubling as a hybrid slot for a microSD card, offering flexibility for storage expansion or additional connectivity. Audio is delivered through a single loudspeaker, ideal for basic listening needs. As for sensors, it includes an accelerometer, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, light sensor, and proximity sensor.
