Shekhar Koirala accuses govt of heading towards authoritarianism

Biratnagar, June 13

Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala has said that the government is heading towards authoritarianism in the name of development and prosperity in the country.

Koirala further accused the government of preparing to take over the state mechanisms.

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Biratnagar  today, the opposition leader said, “The incumbent government is trying to take the judiciary and provincial structures in hand in the name of developing the country. This has indicated the government is making an attempt to head towards authoritarianism.”

The Congress leader also said that his party was in favour of development and prosperity in the country. “But, we will also warn the incumbent government against authoritarianism.”

Meanwhile, speaking on a different note, Koirala said that rather than monitoring various markets and foods, the ministers should focus on people involved in illegal activities and take action against them. “Those ministers should ask the monitoring departments to be active instead.”
