Kathmandu, June 23
The Supreme Court on Friday refused to issue a stay order postponing local level elections in Parasi area of Nawalparasi as well as Rupandehi and Kapilbastu districts.
Advocate Sunil Kumar Patel had filed a petition at the apex court demanding postponement of elections in 11 districts including eight of Province 2 and three of Province 5.
The government has already deferred the polls in Province 2 till September 18.
A division bench of Justice duo Mira Khadka and Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada refused to stay the polls citing election programmes had already begun; and candidacy filing and distribution of election symbols had already been over.
Earlier, the court had issued a show cause notice to the government on this issue.
