Surkhet, March 21
Tension ran high in the Chhinchu Bajaar town in Surkhet of Karnali on Monday over the death of a teenage girl in a road accident on Saturday.
The locals have obstructed the Surkhet-Nepalgunj road as well as local markets demanding action against the tipper driver and compensation to the victim’s family.
Earlier on Saturday, Laxmi Pulami (17), a resident of Neta, Lekbeshi municipality-5 of the district, was killed in the accident.
She was riding pillion on the motorbike (Bhe 7 Pa 1799) when the tipper (Bhe 1 Kha 3102) hit her, informs DSP Ram Prasad Gharti, the spokesperson of the Surkhet District Police Office.
There were two pillion riders on the bike, and the second girl, Sandeepa Pulami (17), from the same place, is injured and is undergoing treatment at the Karnali Provincial Hospital in Surkhet.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the biker, along with the tipper driver, for further investigation.
Chief District Officer Khagendra Rijal says efforts are underway to convince the locals to reopen the road and markets.
