Kathmandu, June 23
Locals of Thali on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu on Sunday obstructed the Thali-Sankhu road section demanding that concerned authorities repair the road at the earliest.
The protesters say they were forced to block the vehicles from the road as the officials did not oblige to a commitment they have made earlier. Officials of Kageshwari Manahara Municipality had agreed to blacktop and upgrade the road within one week when they staged a similar protest around 10 days ago, according to them.
It has been five years since the authorities began repairing the 11 km road. Five contractor companies have been assigned to carry out the task. However, the progress so far is dismal, according to locals.
Owing to dozens of potholes on the road in Salambutar, Indrayani, Nayapati, Danchhi and Thali among other places, not only motorists but pedestrians also find it difficult to travel when it rains.
