Kathmandu, September 16
Transport entrepreneurs and workers have said they are ready to resume long-haul public buses from Thursday.
The service is suspended since late March after the fears of coronavirus infection increased in the country. Recently, the government has decided to resume the service from tomorrow, by maintaining needful safety measures against the risk of infection.
Speaking in a meeting hosted by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport on Wednesday morning, representatives of organisations of entrepreneurs and workers said they were ready to resume the service tomorrow. But, they also demanded that the government clearly state the health standard to be followed.
An official of the ministry says the ministry will finalise the standard by this evening and make public.
Meanwhile, transport entrepreneurs and workers also demanded that the government set up a mechanism to monitor if the standard is implemented well.
During the meeting, Transport Management Minister Basanta Kumar Nembang says the government decided to resume the public transport service early as demanded by the transporters.
