UML scraps convention organising committee after court’s refusal to acknowledge

The CPN-UML convention organising committee meeting in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, January 30, 2021.

Kathmandu, June 30

The ruling CPN-UML has scrapped its convention organising after the Supreme Court refused to acknowledge its legality.

The last meeting of the committee held at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday decided to convert it back to the central committee, informs the party spokesperson Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.

On June 10, while hearing a petition filed by four lawmakers of the Karnali Provincial Assembly, the apex court had said the convention organising committee did not have any right to take action against the party members. The KP Sharma Oli-led faction of the party–which is on the verge of a split–had expressed dissatisfaction with the order and decided to file an application to vacate it.

However, going one step back, the party decided to scrap it. Gyawali says the central committee will hold its meeting on Friday.
