Biratnagar, February 14
CPN-UML provincial parliamentary party leader Sher Dhan Rai has been appointed the Chief Minister of Province 1.
Province Chief Govinda Subba made the appointment as per Article 168(1) of the constitution that says the parliamentary party leader of the party commanding a majority in the Assembly will be appointed the chief provincial executive.
Subba handed over the appointment letter to Rai today.
Though the UML alone holds the majority, Rai has also got the support of CPN-Maoist Centre.
It is expected that Rai will form his Council of Ministers inducting leaders from the UML and the Maoist Centre within next few days.
His oath has been scheduled for Thursday.
