Kathmandu, December 18
The United States government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation that has signed a USD 500-million grant agreement with Nepal recently discussed Nepal’s delay in implementing the 2017 agreement.
The MCC board had held its regular meeting in Washington, DC this Tuesday to discuss the regular agenda. During the meeting, the board received an update of the status of the agreements signed with all countries including Nepal, informs Kathmandu-based US Embassy’s spokesperson Anna Richey-Allen.
In a response to Onlinekhabar’s query about the meeting, the spokesperson says, “The importance of parliamentary ratification in the near-term is clearly recognised as a factor for successful implementation of compact projects for the benefit of the Nepali people.”
At a time the government has failed to table it in the parliament seeking approval, owing to a sharp division in the ruling Nepal Communist Party about the issue, Richey-Allen reminds, “Since 2012, the government [of Nepal] and MCC have worked together to develop the Nepal compact programme, which the government has signed and publicly supports.”
