US Secretary of State Kerry wants to visit Nepal before Obama tenure ends

Kathmandu, April 26

US Secretary of State John Kerry has said he wants to visit Nepal before President Obama’s tenure officially ends in January next year.

Nepal’s embassy in Washington said in a statement that during a meeting with Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa at the State Department on Monday, Kerry said that he wants to visit Nepal, and expressed his hope that the visit could take place by the end of this year.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Thapa briefed Kerry on the current political situation in Nepal, the promulgation of the new constitution promulgation and its amendment, said the embassy. The April 25 quake, and reconstruction work in its aftermath were also discussed.

Secretary of State John Kerry reportedly congratulated the government of Nepal on the tremendous job of the promulgation of the constitution, including its amendment that incorporates the expectation and inspiration of the people.

He said that the US would continue to provide moral, political and financial support for the peace, stability and economic development of Nepal, according to the statement.
