A wild elephant has been found dead in Sundarharaicha Municipality of Morang.
The elephant was shot dead in Janjagaran Community Forest.
According to local leader Dinesh Giri, who was at the scene, the elephant was shot in the head. Nepal Police officials say the elephant might have been shot by a group of poachers.
DSP Ranjan Dahal from the District Police Office Morang has reported that an investigation is currently underway following the discovery of a deceased wild elephant. Dahal said that the cause of the elephant’s death will only be determined once the investigation is complete.
Around two months ago, a group of wild elephants entered Nepal and have been residing in the forest area of Morang. The dead elephant belongs to this same group.
