Kathmandu, October 27
The Nepali Congress says the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre, which have formed an election alliance in a bid to defeat the Congress party in upcoming polls, will vanish if they go with the plan of unification between them.
Speaking with journalists in Kathmandu today, Bal Krishna Khand, the chief of party’s publicity committee formed to carry out electioneering ahead of the polls scheduled for November 26 and December 7, said the communist parties’ attempt to overpower the Congress would boomerang on themselves.
“The Panchayat system tried to destroy the Congress, but we survived. Instead, the Panchayat ended. The King tried to destroy the Congress, but the monarchy vanished,” Khand said, “Today, the UML and the Maoists are saying they will destroy the Congress, democracy and parliamentary system. But, nothing will be destroyed except the parties themselves.”
Khand, however, maintained that the leftist alliance was both an opportunity and a challenge for his party.
