Kathmandu, June 21
Ministry of Local Development has directed VDC secretaries to distribute first installment of Rs 2 lakh grant meant for each earthquake-affected household at the earliest.
It has directed them to seek funds from the central project implementation unit if the already-released budget is not enough for this.
About a year ago, the government had announced to provide Rs 2 lakh as grant to every quake-affected household. Despite this announcement, most of the affected families are yet to get the grant. The ministry directed VDC secretaries to coordinate with banks for the distribution of the first installment of the grant.
The directive comes at a time when the KP Sharma Oli government has come under fire for inability to provide relief to the quake victims, even 13 months after the quake rendered them homeless.
