Kathmandu, September 16
Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ said on Friday he will put an end to load-shedding within the next two years.
Minister Sharma said this while presenting his 37-point commitment paper at a press conference at the Ministry of Energy.
Minister Sharma said he will add 1450 MW to the national transmission line within the next two years.
He said he will end power outage in two years by speeding up work on projects under construction.
Sharma said: Within two years, Nepal Electricity Authority and subsidiary companies will generate an additional 850 MW. During the same period, private promoters will add 400 MW more, whereas solar and biofuel projects will add 200 MW to the national grid.
He also shared plans to import 600 MW from India for ending load-shedding.
On the occasion, he unveiled a programme titled Nepalko Pani, Janatako Lagani — Nepal’s Water, People’s Investment — programme.
Sharma said he will turn NEA into a profit-making utility by improving its fiscal structure and condition.
He maintained that priority will be on maintenance and construction of national transmission lines and on early completion of hydropower projects. We will work with the aim of generating 10,000 MW by 2082 BS (nine years from now).
Within that period, the ministry plans to prepare a detailed project report for generation of 30,000 MW.
On the occasion, Sharma announced to expedite the 10,800-MW Chisapani-Karnali hydropower project as a SAARC-level project.
He said the government will build the 1200-MW reservoir-based Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project by taking loan instead of encouraging people to invest in the project as that will be a costly affair.
