In five photos: Waking up to Nepal’s most famous sunrise

If you have been to Pokhara, chances are that your hotel staff would have recommended you to go on this early-morning hike up a hill in the Lake City. However, he may not have told you that at the end of the hike, you get to rendezvous with the Nepal’s most famous sunrise

Located at an altitude of  1,600m  above sea level, the hill has become a popular destination for paragliding and ultra light flying enthusiasts. But its main charm still remains in the spectacular view it has on offer as the golden ball of fire rises from under the white bastion of the tallest mountains in the world.

After hopping on to a bus before dawn, and climbing uphill for over half an hour, you reach just in time for the show to start. You choose your seats, and take out your camera. Just then the sun slowly rises, spreading its golden rays in all directions.

The mighty silver mountains submit to the golden hue, without any protest. Their soul seems to have been revitalised by the energy coming from the sun, especially after a cold dark night. Everywhere you look, you see a good photograph, then you go an a clicking spree. After a while you decide to savour the moment, and not to try to capture it anymore.

The mountains soon tell you to look down the hill, and to take notice of the valley below. Early morning mist welcomes you, and the soft light coming from the sun illuminates the green and blue just enough to sooth your eyes.

Then the sun shines in its full glory, the mountains give up their golden hue, and simmer in their own white. The mountains meet the clear blue sky, and talk of the dark night that is imminent. They also seem to talk of the early morning experience, and wait for day to break once more.

If you stay there long enough, you will take out your camera again and start taking selfies. The mountains have been here for thousands of years, and it takes them only some time to understand pop culture. They embrace you whole-heartedly, and when you leave, bid you good bye, with a smile.
