Kathmandu, November 28

Two Nepali nationals and their UN Refugee Agency co-worker have been abducted by gunmen in Sudan’s Darfur region, an official told AFP on Monday.

According to the AFP, the Nepalis and their Sudanese co-worker were abducted on Sunday in Geneina, the capital of West Darfur.

“A group of armed men kidnapped yesterday three UNHCR workers, two Nepalis and a Sudanese, from Geneina,” Abdelah Mustafa, spokesman for the state government of West Darfur told AFP.

Darfur has raging in conflict since 2003 when ethnic minority groups took up arms against President Omar al-Bashir’s Arab-dominated government, which launched a brutal counter-insurgency.

The UN agency is working in the region to look after people displaced by the conflict.

Police say hunt for the abductors is on, and it was not immediately clear who was behind the incident.

The identities of the abducted could not be established.
