Kathmandu, February 5
Truth and Reconciliation Commission has decided to ask the Prachanda government to extend its tenure. Commission meeting held on Sunday decided to send a proposal to the Ministry of Peace seeking a term extension.
Earlier, TRC members were not on the same page over term extension.
A year ago, the TRC had written to the ministry seeking a year’s term extension. The commission was formed to investigate rights violations that occurred during the decade-long Maoist insurgency, recommend action against the guilty and reparations for the victims.
As per governing laws, TRC should have a tenure of two years and the government can extend the term by one more year.
