Dhangadhi, February 15
Activists of the ANNISU-R, the student wing of the Biplav-led CPN-Maoist, on Wednesday abducted chief and assistant chief of the Lamki Multiple Campus (Kailali), Bhishma Thapa and Kamal Bista, from the campus premises and took them to an undisclosed location, a source said.
However, Kailali police said they have no knowledge of the ‘abduction’. It should be noted that the Maoist party has been opposing the plan to conduct Free Student Union elections on February 26. They have cautioned campuses throughout the country not to conduct FSU elections on that date.
Dipendra Chalaune, general secretary of the ANNISU-R, told Onlinekhabar: It is possible that the campus chief and assistant chief may have been taken in for questioning as part of programmes aimed at creating pressure for postponement of FSU elections. However, I do not have official information about the Lamki incident.
Mobile phones of ANNISU-R leaders based in Kailali have been switched off.
