Kathmandu, June 26

The main opposition leader KP Sharma Oli on Monday has criticised the government for failing to ensure peace and security in the run-up to the second phase of local level elections scheduled for Wednesday.

He says the government as well as ruling parties are promoting “state terrorism” against opposition parties.

Though the Election Commission has declared the silence period and banned parties from carrying out promotional activities, Oli organised a press conference at the party headquarters in Kathmandu and criticised ruling parties just two days before provinces 1, 5 and 7 will hold local level elections.

Stressing that the polls should be held in a free and fair atmosphere, Oli said the government’s security measures were not enough to ensure that.

He mentioned that an explosive was found at the house of a UML candidate in Dharan some days ago whereas three explosives were recovered from behind the stage of mass assembly he attended in Butwal yesterday.
