Parties busy in internal discussions to finalise National Assembly candidates

Kathmandu, January 23

Major political parties are busy in internal meetings and negotiations in order to finalise the names of their National Assembly candidates.

The Election Commission has set the date of tomorrow to file nominations for the polls scheduled for February 7.

The CPN-UML has called a meeting of its Standing Committee at Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Balkot of Bhaktapur today. The party finalised candidates for provinces 5, 6 and 7 yesterday and today’s meeting will finalise candidates in four other provinces.

Likewise, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is consulting top leaders of his party at his Baluwatar residence today in order to finalise the list.

The CPN-Maoist Centre has already assigned its three top leaders–Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Ram Bahadur Thapa–to finalise the list and the leaders are busy in internal discussions at Dahal residence in Khumaltar of Lalitpur.

Discussions are underway in Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal too.
