Kathmandu, June 19
The national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation is selling its three-decade-old aircraft Boeing 757. The sale will be a part of the Corporation’s plan to get rid of old technologies and adopt newer ones.
Most possibly, the Corporation will issue a tender notice to begin the selling process within this week, according to its spokesperson Nawa Raj Koirala.
Koirala informs that the Corporation decided to sell the aircraft based on a recommendation of a technical committee. The aircraft is grounded at the Tribhuvan International Airport since February.
Staff of the Corporation, however, consider this aeroplane a lucky charm. With the aircraft, the Corporation had reached many destinations of Asia and Europe including London, Frankfurt and Paris in the past.
During that time, no Gulf airlines had this model, according to Raju KC, a former staffer of the Corporation. “High officials of Emirates Airline used to go to Frankfurt to look at our aircraft,” he adds.
Two years ago, the Corporation had sold another Boeing aircraft. The two Boeing aircraft were purchased in 1987 and 1989.
The Corporation had adopted a strategy to get rid of the old aircraft once it purchased two narrow body Airbus planes in 2015.
