Kathmandu, July 30
The stock market surged on Tuesday, nearing the 2700-point mark. After a decline of 20.63 points the previous day, the NEPSE index rose by 35.55 points, reaching 2696 points. At its peak, the index touched 2709 points at 2:40 pm. The total transaction volume amounted to Rs 17.26 billion, compared to Rs19.60 billion the day before.
The prices of 189 companies increased, 47 decreased, and 6 remained unchanged. The hotel and tourism sector saw the highest growth at 5.99 per cent, followed by finance at 5.98 per cent, hydropower at 3.12 per cent, investment at 3.15 per cent, life insurance at 0.58 per cent, manufacturing at 0.35 per cent, microfinance at 0.98 per cent, other sectors at 3.5 per cent, and development banks at 2.40 per cent. In contrast, the banking sector fell by 0.76 per cent, trading by 0.57 per cent, and non-life insurance by 0.36 per cent.
Notably, the prices of Progressive Finance, Barun Hydropower, Sanjen Jalvidhyut, Nepal Warehousing Company, CEDB Hydropower, Nepal Finance, and Hathway Investment Company rose by 10 per cent. Muktinath Agriculture Company saw a 9.8% increase, and Sagarmatha Jalvidhyut Company rose by 9.4 per cent.
On the downside, Asian Hydropower’s price dropped by 10 per cent, and Ganapati Microfinance fell by 6.1 per cent. In terms of transaction volume, the top performers were Himalayan Reinsurance, Shivam Cement, Soltee Hotel, Nepal Finance, and Chilime Hydropower.
