Police fire warning shots in Sarlahi after clash led by ward chairperson

Sarlahi, January 5

Police in Sarlahi fired five rounds of warning shots to control a tense situation following a clash with locals at Baijanath Chowk in Ramnagar Rural Municipality-5.

The altercation began during a police alcohol checkpoint when an argument erupted between police personnel and local youths, leading to heightened tensions.

According to Madhesh Province Police Spokesperson SP Subash Bohora, the police resorted to aerial firing after being attacked. He stated that Ward Chairperson Shrinandan Yadav and his team attempted to obstruct the police operation, further escalating the conflict.

During the clash, Police Constable Shailendra Rai sustained a head injury caused by the attack. Yadav is currently undergoing treatment at Janakpur Neuro Hospital.

Additional police reinforcements, led by Sarlahi DSP, were deployed to the area to restore order.
