Kathmandu, November 5
Two bodies have been recovered from a car that plunged into a pond in Sarlahi.
The incident occurred this morning when a car (license plate number Lu 2 Ch 6758), traveling from Bayalbas to Gaushala in Mahottari, fell into a pond in Miyan Khor, located in Ishwarpur Municipality-2 of Sarlahi.
A rescue team from the Armed Police Force retrieved the bodies of the driver, Suresh Mahto (from Gaushala Municipality-10), and Ramakant Thakur (from Sonama Rural Municipality-8) from the pond at around 8:30 AM.
A diving team also located the submerged car in the pond. Efforts are ongoing to recover the vehicle, according to the police.
According to DSP Deepak Shrestha, spokesperson for the Sarlahi District Police, another passenger, Janak Yadav (around 31 years old, from Gaushala-2), managed to swim to safety.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the car lost control and crashed into the pond located near Saraswati Higher Secondary School on the side of the road. The police have stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
