Sarlahi, January 5
One protester died during the demonstration at Barahathawa in Sarlahi.
A clash with the police occurred during a demonstration led by parties, including the Nepali Congress, who were demanding the implementation of the city executive’s decision to transfer the primary health center located at Barahathawa 6 to the Madhesh province government for upgrading.
Chief District Officer of Sarlahi Komal Prasad Dhamala confirmed the death of one protester.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
The district administration office said that it is not clear whether the death was due to gunshots or not. Several others have been injured in the incident.
Following the death, protesters pelted stones at the municipal office and the house of Mayor Kalpana Kumari Katuwal. Police used tear gas and air fire to bring the situation under control.
