Water shortage at Teaching Hospital disrupts services

Kathmandu, March 4

A severe water shortage at the Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu has disrupted essential services, affecting patients, caretakers, hospital staff, and medical professionals.

According to hospital administrator Saraswati Gurung, the crisis stems from the boreholes within the hospital premises failing to extract water and an irregular supply through the water pipelines.

“Discussions are being held to solve the water problem,” Gurung said, highlighting ongoing efforts to find a resolution.

The situation has raised concerns about sanitation, as an employee of the hospital reported that cleanliness and hygiene have been significantly impacted due to the lack of water. Additionally, the shortage has also affected treatment services, putting further strain on hospital operations.

Responding to the crisis, a source from Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) stated that emergency measures had been taken to mitigate the problem.

“After learning that the water supply to the hospital had been stopped, we ensured water was sent throughout the night. If more is needed, we will also send it by tanker. If there are still any issues, we will take immediate steps to resolve them,” the KUKL source said.
