Another ritual: Nepal government observing quake safety day

Bhukampa-Pidit (1)

Kathmandu, January 15

Nepal is observing the 19th Erthquake Safety Day by organising different programmes. As part of the programmes, the government is organising a special programme at Sankhu, Kathmandu, on Sunday, in a bid to minimise losses resulting from quake.

Sankhu had suffered huge losses in the May 25, 2015 quake. At Sankhu, the government is organising an exhibition of quake-resistant materials. The exhibition will run for five days.

Government has been organising the safety day in memory of the Great Earthquake that hit Nepal about 83 years ago, for 17 years.

But this programme has not been effective. After the May 25 quake, government celebrated the safety day by organising special programmes. But programmes started back then have not yet seen completion.
