Kathmandu, December 12
China’s North West Civil Aviation has recruited additional 250 skilled workers so as to expedite construction works at the proposed Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa of Rupandehi.
The company has also taken initiatives to purchase some additional equipment from China.
Currently, around 200 Nepali workers are working in the project. But, the Chinese contractor concluded the human resources were insufficient and, hence, decided to bring in workers from China, according to project chief Om Sharma. He informs that procedures have begun for their labour permits.
Earlier, the government had warned that it would terminated the contract if it did not improve the performance. Now, the government has concluded not to scrap the contract, according to Sharma.
“The previous team would not give attention to the job and would just kill time. The new team is very attentive.”
The government has issued a fresh deadline of June next year to complete 80 per cent of construction works. Earlier, the deadline to complete the entire construction was December 2017.
