The executive chairperson of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has commented that China is also involved in the Indian government’s construction of a link road to Manasarovar via Gunji that lies in the Kalapani region, which Nepal claims to be its territory.
Hence, talking with India alone will not be sufficient to solve this problem, and China should also be involved, according to him.
Speaking in a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee in Parliament on Sunday, the former prime minister said, referring to an agreement between China and India to open a bilateral trade route via Lipulekh, “This issue has become trilateral now; solving it between the two countries will be difficult because China is also involved.”
He conceded that the current government led by his party’s another chairman KP Sharma Oli has failed to take concrete initiatives to resolve the issue although an all-party meeting held in the wake of India’s publication of new political map in November last year had made a national consensus in this regard.
