Constitution will be amended on basis of all-party understanding, says Foreign Minister Mahat

Prakash-Sharan-Mahat

Kathmandu, October 30

Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat said on Sunday the Constitution will be amended on the basis of all-party understanding.

Speaking at a Deusi-Bhailo programme of a team of journalists under Rishi Dhamala, Mahat said they all are trying to address the aspirations of Nepali people. He said: Constitution amendment will also take place with understanding of all parties, there’s no doubt about that.

He asked all concerned not to make the government decision to give holiday coinciding with Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s Nepal visit an issue.

He claimed: Giving holiday is a positive thing. Now all of us should work together to make his (Mukherjee’s) visit a success.

Minister Mahat said Nepal will push further its diplomatic relations by putting its national interests at the centre. He stressed the need to move ahead by maintaining a fine balance between rights and responsibilities.

Mahat said Nepal has cordial relations with both of its neighbours — China and India.
