Kathmandu, February 20
The Minister for Home Affairs, Ram Bahadur Thapa has said the government has not been able to take action against Nepal Red Cross Society in spite of being informed about its involvement in irregularities. He says a lack of specific law resulted in the inability.
Speaking at a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee in the House of Representatives on Thursday, he said the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority did not look into the issue as it was not the anti-corruption constitutional body’s jurisdiction. Likewise, the government also could not force the police and the government attorney to investigate the issues as a fraud case as no person has been defrauded.
After the minister’s statement, the committee directed the government to bring the NRCS to the ambit of law as soon as possible.
