Kathmandu, November 3
The Kathmandu District Court has begun another round of hearing on the attempt to rape case filed against the former House of Representatives speaker and ruling Nepal Communist Party leader, Krishna Bahadur Mahara. This hearing will decide whether to keep him in judicial custody or release him on a general date or bail till the final verdict is issued.
Earlier on Friday, the court had recorded the statement of Mahara, in which the accused had denied visiting the alleged victim’s house.
The court’s information officer Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said a closed bench is hearing the case. It means anyone except those representing the plaintiff and defendant will be barred from attending the hearing.
The government attorneys have demanded a seven-and-a-half-year jail term for Mahara, who has been accused of attempting to rape a Federal Parliament employee.
