Kathmandu, February 26
Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has directed Nepal Oil Corporation not to distribute bonus to its staff.
Minister Poudel issued this directive on Thursday upon learning that the state-run oil monopoly, whose financial health is not sound, was preparing to distribute around Rs 900 million to its employees as bonus.
The oil monopoly has yet to repay Rs 12 billion to the government. Last year the NOC had prepared an audit report, claiming that it had earned working profit. Based on that report, it was preparing to distribute bonus to the staff.
Minister Poudel called Surya Acharya, Finance Ministry’s representative at the NOC, at the ministry and told him not to distribute bonus.
Earlier too, the ministry had directed loss-making public enterprises not to distribute bonus to their staffers. The PEs had distributed bonus to their staff nonetheless by showing working profit.
