Kathmandu, December 29
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has finally enacted the National Assembly Ordinance, paving the way for National Assembly elections and subsequent new government formation.
Just before issuing the ordinance, the President had consulted Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang.
The ordinance was put on hold for months as major political parties had sharp differences on the electoral system for the upper House. Just yesterday, the UML was convinced to let the President issue the ordinance though it had reservations over the proposed single transferable system.
Now, the government will fix a date for the National Assembly polls as the Election Commission has already begun process for the elections.
