Goût de France event to be organised in Kathmandu as well

Kathmandu, March 5

Eight restaurants and hotel schools in Kathmandu have been selected to take part in Goût de France, a  unique global event held on five continents in over a 150 countries.

According to the French Embassy in Kathmandu, chefs from around the world will prepare French delicacies on the evening of March 21 with one common objective: to celebrate French gastronomy with local products and talent. This year will see the participation of around 3,000 restaurants worldwide.

The following restaurants and schools will be participating this year:

  • The Old House Restaurant, Durbarmarg
  • Pauline’s Garden, Balwatar
  • Garden Terrace, Soaltee Crowne Plaza
  • La Terrace, GATE College
  • Rox Restaurant, Hyatt Regency Kathmandu
  • The Chimney, Hotel Yak and Yeti
  • Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management
  • Olive Garden, Radisson Hotel Kathmandu

Each of the restaurants are to prepare a ‘French-style’ menu with a traditional French aperitif, a cold starter, a hot starter, fish or shellfish, meat or poultry, a French cheese (or cheeseboard), a chocolate dessert and serve French wine and digestifs. But they are also free to highlight their own culinary traditions and cultures.

French Ambassador to Nepal Yves Carmona said, “There is a traditional strong link between diplomacy and gastronomy. But today is not about diplomacy, it’s about business. There was a cuisine ‘a la francaise’ already in the 14th century well before there were permanent embassies. Although the origin of the event is French, it can be considered a very Nepali event since almost all restaurant or school are run by Nepalis. It perfectly exemplifies the spirit of openness of French gastronomy and is a testament of Nepali talent.”
