The National Cyber Security Centre has issued a comprehensive 102-point advisory to enhance the security of government websites, data, and networks amid rising cyber threats.
The advisory outlines measures for safeguarding websites, servers, applications, networks, and devices used in government offices. It also emphasises public awareness of cybersecurity practices.
Centre Director Raj Kumar Maharjan highlighted that negligence and lack of awareness contribute to cyber vulnerabilities. “This advisory is not just for government employees but for all citizens to reduce cyber risks,” he said.
The guidelines recommend regular website updates, security testing, data backups, and implementing multifactor authentication. It stresses using licensed software, updating systems, and securing printers from internet access.
For password management, strong passwords, regular updates, and multifactor authentication are advised. Safe browsing practices, secure app downloads, and limited personal information sharing on social media are also emphasized.
Additionally, ministries and departments must designate focal points to address website issues and ensure regular cybersecurity training for employees.
Maharjan expressed confidence that these measures would protect government systems from cyber threats while raising public awareness. The Centre urges proactive implementation of these strategies to enhance national cybersecurity.
