Habeas Corpus Petition filed against Durga Prasai’s arrest; hearing today

File: Durga Prasain

Kathmandu, November 24

A habeas corpus petition has been filed at the Supreme Court, claiming that medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai is being detained illegally.

Prasai’s son, Nirajan Prasai, filed the petition last Friday, asserting that his father’s detention is unlawful.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to conduct a preliminary hearing on the petition today. The case will be heard by the bench of Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma.

Prasai was arrested on November 19 following the release of a controversial video in which he alleged that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had invested in Cambodia.

The Kathmandu District Court had authorised the police to detain Prasai for investigation. He is currently being probed on charges including cybercrime and forgery of government documents.
