Kathmandu, July 21
India has put a ban on exporting rice. India’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs issued a notice on Thursday to announce the news that it is banning the export of non-basmati.
This decision from India is due to impact Nepal drastically as most of the rice Nepal imports comes from India.
In the first 11 months of the past fiscal year, Nepal imported rice worth Rs 14.44 billion from India. That is around 200 million kilograms.
Indian media claims that this decision was taken to prevent food shortages in the country due to the low monsoon in India, which will reduce rice production. This will impact global trade, say experts.
