Kathmandu, April 16
Amid the federal government’s indecisiveness about shutting schools for a certain period after reports of the new variant of the coronavirus affecting children, the Kathmandu metropolitan city has directed schools under its jurisdiction to close classes for at least one week if they have active Covid-19 cases among students, teachers or other staff.
The city government has directed other schools (those without active Covid-19 cases) to maintain maximum safety measures against the potential infection.
The directive comes one day after the Health Ministry under the federal government urged people in 14 districts including Kathmandu to avoid crowds such as schools. As reported, the ministry had resorted to issuing an appeal after the Ministry of Education refused to close schools.
