Kathmandu, January 16
Police in Kathmandu receive around 100 reports of mobile phone theft almost everyday, but they are able to retrieve only around 10 of them.
In the first six months of this fiscal, they received 7,984 complaints and found back just 604, which is below 10 per cent.
DSP Shekhar Khanal at the Metropolitan Police Range in Kathmandu says the figures from last year, however, were quite higher. In the last fiscal year, 2016/17, police registered 12,430 complaints of mobile theft and were able to find 1,681 of them back.
The figures include only written applications, but not complaints filed via email and Hamro Police mobile app.
Meanwhile, police said around 70 per cent of complainants are women.
Police urge members of the public to stay alert against mobile theft at public places including public vehicles, banks, parks and hospitals.
